One of Cuba’s most internationally famed dance companies, the Conjunto Folclórico Nacional de Cuba enjoyed a successful run in London in early 2000. Founded way back in 1962, it is directed by Teresa Gonzales, a dancer, choreographer and teacher. She has worked to fuse the European roots of Cuban dance with its African origins, especially those of the Yoruba, Locumi, Bantu and Congo cultures. The company has a repertoire of over 70 productions and usually performs in the Teatro Mella. The Conjunto plays excellent rumba on the patio of the central café/bar area every Saturday and also offers dance classes through Folcuba.
