Set in the Congo Republic, ‘The Chimp Project’ is about Lisa, an adolescent, sexually aware chimp, trained in the art of sign language who has out grown Jo’berg and her career in TV commercials. Sonya, Lisa’s human flatmate whisks her away to a rehabilitation sanctuary in the Congo where Lisa shocks a young primatologist with her taste for fags, gin and junk food. The play explores the power of language through a brilliant mix of puppet, actors and video animation that has made the Handspring Puppet Company internationally famous.
