What better place to enjoy the pageantry, tragedy and beauty of Italian opera than nestled in the belly of an ancient Roman amphitheatre, under the starry skies of Verona. The 2000 Lyric Season at the Arena di Verona is dedicated to the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, with four of his most memorable works on show – Nabucco, La Forza del Destino, Aida and La Traviata. Completed in AD 30, the Arena is one of the three largest amphitheatres in the world and is a fantastic venue to experience opera. Full details can be found at Travel Guides Rome, including reviews and listings of other concerts.
