Shanghai’s foremost contemporary art event has come a long way in just four years. This year works by more than 70 artists will fill both the old and new Shanghai Art Museums. The exhibition’s thread of continuity is supplied by the ‘Shanghai Spirit’ theme, but how exactly this applies to the 30 or so foreign contributing artists (including Anish Kapoor and Anselm Kiefer) will be interesting to see. Established local stars to look out for include Zhang Peili, Wang Qiang and Shui Jianguo.
